Galvanizing: the short version
Hot dip galvanizing coats steel in molten zinc to protect it from rust.
When you need it
- Outdoor steel that must not rust
- Railings, frames or structural steel

What to send the shop
- Drawings with sizes, weight and lifting points
- Steel grade, thickness and quantity

Galvanizing FAQ
Is hot dip galvanizing the same as zinc plating?
No. Hot dip galvanizing dips steel in molten zinc. Zinc plating uses electricity to lay zinc on the part. Ask which one your drawing calls for.
Is cold galvanizing paint the same thing?
No. Cold galvanizing is a paint rich in zinc. Hot dip galvanizing dips the steel itself in molten zinc.
How long does it last?
Corbec gives 75 to 100 years in a normal environment. Ask the plant about your own conditions.
Can I send sealed tubes?
No. Sealed pipe or tube can explode in the zinc bath. Agree on vent and drain holes with the plant before you build.

Before you deliver
- Silver City in Delta can't clean off welding slag, oil-based paint, wax, epoxy or heavy grease. Ask your plant, and remove them first.
- Put vent holes at the highest point and drain holes at the lowest.
