What to send the shop
A drawing with inside radius and bend angles
Material grade, thickness and quantity
Tube size, wall thickness and centre line radius
Faces that must stay free of tool marks
Your date, and whether you supply the metal
Typical lead time
Brampton shops quote time per job. Ask when you send your drawing.
Ask the shop
3 questions worth asking
Q1
Can your tooling make these radii in my material and thickness?
Q2
Is there a setup charge or a minimum for this quantity?
Q3
Do you supply the metal, or should I?
Questions
Bending and rolling FAQ
What is the difference between bending and rolling?
Bending makes sharp angles, on a press brake or a tube bender. Rolling makes smooth curves, like a cylinder or a curved beam. Many shops do both.
What should a tube bending drawing show?
The tube size, wall thickness and material, the centre line radius, each bend angle and the quantity. Ask the shop to check it against its tooling before you buy material.
Can a shop roll plate into a cone?
Many plate rolling shops make cylinders, cones and curved panels. Send the finished size and the plate thickness, and ask whether it fits their rolls.
Will bending mark my parts?
It can leave tool marks. Tell the shop which faces show, and ask how they protect painted, stainless or aluminum parts.
Good to know
Brannon Steel in Brampton lists a 1,500 ton tandem press brake with a 30 foot bending length.
Ask for setup, material and bending as separate lines on the quote.
For an odd shape, send a sample part or a photo with sizes.
No Brampton shop we checked posts prices for this. Send a request to compare quotes.
