Questions

Structural steel FAQ

Does the fabricator need CWB certification?

For welded structures built to CSA S16, the fabricator must be CWB certified in Division 1 or 2, says CWB.

How long does a structural steel job take?

Jeff and Simon Ironworks in Burnaby says commercial and structural projects often run 10 to 16 weeks. Engineering review, permits and other trades set the pace.

What should I send for a mezzanine quote?

Send the layout, intended use, loads and any engineer's drawings. Ask who supplies the design and checks the connections.

What should the quote cover?

Ask about fabrication, finish, delivery, lifting and installation. Confirm who handles site measurements and any work needed before the steel arrives.

Good to know
