Questions

Tool and die FAQ

What does a toolmaker need to quote?

Send part drawings, models, material specifications, volumes and your press or machine limits. Include existing tool photos if the job is a repair.

What should I ask about tool trials?

Ask what testing, sample parts and revisions are included. Agree on how the finished tool will be checked before you accept it.

Who owns the finished tool?

Ask for ownership, storage and maintenance terms in writing. Confirm what drawings and files come with the tool.

Good to know

  • Give the expected yearly volume and the machine that will run the tool.
