Wire EDM FAQ

What wire EDM machines do Los Angeles shops run?

City Industrial Tool & Die in Harbor City lists a Sodick A530D wire EDM. Pacific West America in Calabasas lists a Mitsubishi FX 10.

Wire EDM or sinker EDM?

Wire cuts through the part like a saw. Sinker EDM burns a shape into it, for blind pockets. FINN Tool & Instruments in Canoga Park runs sink EDMs.

Can one shop do EDM and regular machining?

Many do. Too Mac Engineering in North Hollywood says it can do both conventional and EDM machining.

Good to know

  • Say if the part is already hardened. EDM cuts it without heat damage.
  • Ask for the cut thickness limit before you send a thick part.
