Questions
Metal stamping FAQ
Is stamping worth it for a small run?
Often not, because a die costs money up front. For a few parts, laser cutting may cost less. Ask the shop to compare.
What presses do New York City stampers run?
It varies. Belmet Products in the Bronx lists stamping presses from 35 to 350 tons. Volkert Precision Technologies in Queens Village runs a 45 ton servo press.
How old are these shops?
Belmet Products has stamped and deep drawn metal since 1919. Albest Metal Stamping in Brooklyn was established in 1958.
Good to know
Send your yearly quantity. It drives the tooling choice.
Some stamping shops here have run for decades. Ask about old dies they may still hold.
