Questions

Tool and die FAQ

Can an old die be repaired?

Often yes. Send photos and the part it makes. A tool and die shop can say if a repair or a new die costs less.

Do tool and die shops also make parts?

Some do. Dayton Industries in the Bronx was founded in 1946 as Dayton Tool and Die Works and now makes metal stampings too.

Do shops here have wire EDM for dies?

Some do. Volkert Precision Technologies in Queens Village lists Sodick wire EDM machines. Belmet Products in the Bronx lists wire EDM too.

Good to know

  • Send the part drawing and your quantity. Tool design depends on both.
  • Ask who keeps the tool and where it is stored.
