Questions
Mobile welding FAQ
Does a mobile welder need a permit in New York City?
Torch work with oxygen and a flammable gas, such as acetylene or propane, needs an FDNY hot work permit. Ask the welder if they hold one before the visit.
What does a mobile welder cost here?
Few New York City welders post mobile rates. Send photos and the address to two or three shops, and ask what the call out minimum is.
Mobile or shop welding?
If the part can travel, a shop is often cheaper. Mobile makes sense for gates, railings, fire escapes and equipment that can't move.
Good to know
Tell the welder about stairs, elevators and parking. It changes the price.
Ask if the welder brings fire watch and cleanup, or if you need to arrange them.
